I was a participant of Governor’s School for the Humanities last summer. Over the past several months I’ve been applying for colleges and venturing into my senior year, and I cannot thank you enough for my time at Governor’s School. During my month there, I was able to learn things that I can’t learn elsewhere. Not only am I now better prepared for college--I’ve lived in a dorm, attended classes, managed homework, made friends, etc.--but I also grew as a human being. As I was exposed to people who held different beliefs from my own, I had to learn how to not become defensive when they didn’t agree with my viewpoints. When I was put in a situation where no one knew me, I learned that I must understand myself if I want others to understand me. After realizing that the subject I had wanted to major in for the past two years was not right for me, I learned how to accept change in my life and my future. I loved everything I learned in Governor’s School, from human nature in Utopian and Dystopian Thought to how to deal with having a roommate. Although my time there felt like time in a bottle, I will still use the lessons that I have been taught in my future. Thank you for the work you put in, and thank you for caring about each of us.
I just wanted to reach out to thank you for a great experience at Governor's School this summer. To be honest, I really did not know what to expect coming into it, but with every day I spent at UT Martin I became more and more thankful that I had been accepted. Dr. Baxter's class convinced me that I might want to major in political science in college, Dr. Hill's Utopian and Dystopian Thought class improved my writing greatly, and Dr. Nanney taught me a great deal about news media throughout my newspaper seminar. More than that, though, what I'll take with me from this summer are the experiences I had outside of the classroom--learning to manage my time away from home well enough to study and get some sleep along with the many great friendships I made. The bonds I formed this summer with so many scholars will truly last a lifetime…thank you so much for this experience.
I just wanted to reach out and thank you for taking time to write me a recommendation letter and for taking an interest in my experience at UT Martin over the summer. I came out of this experience with a lot more knowledge than I came in with, and I’ve definitely grown as a person as a result. Thank you for taking the time to sit down with me at lunch and tell me about law school and take an interest in who I am as a person, and thank you for continuing this program that will surely shape further classes of students in the future.
I would like to say thank you to you for helping make my time at Governor's School one I will remember forever. I am constantly looking back on my good times there, and none of it would have been possible without your help, so thank you!
Governor's School was absolutely the highlight of my summer and probably the entire year. The friendships I made and the classes I had the privilege of attending were outstanding. I sincerely thank you for the time and energy you dedicated to us and to this program. To be honest, I was a bit nervous about spending a whole month away from home. I did not know anyone participating in the program. However, from the very first day I was encouraged by how easy it was to make acquaintances with both the students and faculty. Everyone was so welcoming and sincere. The tight-knit community that we all forged was unlike anything I had ever seen. I truly believe that the classes and programs have better equipped me, not just for college, but for life…thank you for giving me the opportunity to attend GSH 2021 and for making it so memorable!
I just wanted to say a big thank you for directing this program! It was truly and amazing experience. You really made this place feel like home, which was so assuring for me as well as for the other kids...I’m so blessed to have had this amazing experience, and I can’t thank you enough!
I had an amazing time at GSH this summer and really appreciate all the hard work you put into making the program memorable and special! Thank you so much for the opportunity to learn and make friends that being accepted to GSH gave me.
I miss Governor's School and keep in close touch with several of the friends I made there. It really was a great experience, and I am so glad I spent June at UT Martin learning alongside such amazing kids and great professors. I hope wherever I go to college feels the way Governor's School felt this past June.
I am working towards submitting my college application and I was going to put you down as one of my other recommenders. I just wanted to give you a heads up and to thank you for offering to do this for me. I also wanted to let you know how much I miss Governor’s School and how much of an impact it had on my life. Thank you again!!
It's only been about four months since your incredible program came to a close. I really cannot express how grateful I am to have been a part of that program. So first of all, thank you once again for all the memories you created for all of us. Time really did fly by…thank you again.
