The Young Musician's Workshop is an annual event founded by former band director and Amro Educational Representative LaDonna Gibson. The inspiration for this event stemmed from the fact that so many beginning band students quit after their first year of musical study. In addition to helping with retention, the event also reinforces a sense of community and inclusion among fellow band students. Many come from rural schools with very small band programs. These young students can experience isolation and a sense of exclusion from their peers at school. During the Young Musician’s Workshop, however, they have the opportunity to interact with hundreds of band students just like them. In May 2019, the 10th Annual Young Musician’s Workshop took place at Arkansas State University. The workshop included masterclasses taught by the ASU music faculty, local band directors, and Amro employees. The workshop concluded with a performance by the ASU faculty in the University’s concert hall.
The 2019 Summer Piano Camp is under the direction of Dr. Elaine Harriss, Professor of Music at UTM. It is for upper intermediate and advanced level students who have completed grades 7-12.
