Series Description


Series 1 - NATO: Series 1 contains information on Congressional Delegations to various NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) Parliamentary Assembly meetings. This includes meeting before and during the time Congressman Tanner was President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.


Series 2 - Reelfoot Lake: Series 2 focuses on legislation and conservation of Reelfoot Lake. Files can be found on a wide range of issues from dredging the lake and future funding as well as Army Corp of Engineer reports to planning for Cates Landing River Port.


Series 3 - Legislation: Series 3 pertains to projects within Tanners congressional district. The files deal with the needs of individual communities. Topics of interest range from the National Highway Safety Boards Tire Safety investigation, the North American Fair Trade Agreement, Earthquake research and Boll Weevil Eradication. There is also information on applications and confirmation of Community Development Block Grants.


Series 3.1 Legislative Profiles: Produced by the Office of the Clerk, the legislative profiles breaks down activities and progress of legislation in the House of Representatives.


Series 4 - Projects: Series 4 deals with the counties of west Tennessee and the specific needs of each individual county. Some of the overlapping concerns are funding for the Tennessee Valley Authority, Disaster Assistance, Reelfoot Lake and Community Development Block Grants. They are arranged in date order.


Series 5 - Blue Dog Democrats: The Blue Dog Democrats (co-founded by John Tanner) is a coalition of conservative and moderate Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives. Series 5 deals with legislation of interest of the Blue Dogs such as Welfare Reform, Campaign Reform and a Balanced Budget. Information is arranged by date.


Series 6 - Welfare Reform: Support for the overhaul of the welfare system is address in Series 6 and focuses on Congressman Tanners work on legislation to update the welfare system.


Series 7 - Press: Series 7 covers press releases from the Congressman's office concerning issues of the day and pending legislation.


Series 8 - Redistricting: To prohibit States from carrying out more than one Congressional redistricting after a decennial census and apportionment, to require States to conduct such redistricting through independent commissions, and for other purposes.


Series 9 - U.S. Naval Academy Board of Visitors: The duty of the Academy's Board of Visitors is to inquire into the state of morale and discipline, the curriculum, instruction, physical equipment, fiscal affairs, academic methods, and other matters relating to the academy which the Board decides to consider.


Series 10 - Multimedia: Series 10 includes various forms of media including books, compact disks and video cassettes.
