UT Martin students to work hospitality at Super Bowl LIII

Twelve University of Tennessee at Martin students will work alongside hospitality management at Super Bowl LIII, Feb. 3, in Atlanta, Georgia. This will be the sixth UT Martin cohort to work the event.

Dr. Dexter Davis, UT Martin associate professor of sport management, has taken students from the UT Martin College of Business and Global Affairs to the Super Bowl for the past five years.

“For many of these kids it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” said Davis. “It’s also a powerful brand to have on your resume. They can legitimately say that they have worked for one of the most valuable brands in the world at the largest single-day sporting event in the world.”

Students will work with On Location Experiences, the National Football League’s premium hospitality business, serving as talent concierges on game day. This role includes coordinating player appearances, escorting players between venues and helping with on-field activities. Throughout the week, students will also assist with Super Bowl Live and be on call for the Local Organizing Committee.

“It seems chaotic and stressful in the moment, though it really is not,” said Leighton Chappell, a junior from Flushing, Michigan, who will work the event for the second time after attending last year in Minnesota. “Dr. Davis does a great job ensuring that his students are having a good time and that we gain valuable experience from the event.”

Also attending are students Casey Allen, a senior from Vandergrift, Pennsylvania; Jodie Duncan, a graduate student from Munford; Mary Lane Harmon, a junior from Dickson; Daniel Jones, a senior from Nolensville; Ty Minton, a junior from Pleasant View; Shelby Nicholas, a senior from Lavinia; Victoria Page, a junior from Henry; Katie Reece, a senior from Louisburg, Kansas; Gracie Sills, a senior from Brownsville; Macy Slaughter, a senior from Dyersburg; and Peyton Wolfe, a senior from Ramer.

The group will leave Jan. 28 and have the opportunity to attend a symposium lead by NFL executives on the Super Bowl planning team, meet with executives from the Atlanta Braves baseball team, tour the Atlanta Hawks’ facilities and attend a Georgia Tech basketball game while in the Atlanta area.
