The University of Tennessee at Martin Percussion Studio will host its annual World Bizarre performance and fundraiser from 6:30-9 p.m., March 29, at the Soleil Garden Center in Union City. Admission is $10 at the door and covers dinner and beverages.
All proceeds from the event will fund travel expenses and instrument maintenance for the percussion ensemble and its Roots of Rhythm exhibition show. The Soleil Garden Center is located at 2317 Nailling Drive in Union City.
Earlier in the week of March 24, the department will host the Nashville Trombone Quartet at 2 p.m., March 25, in the Fine Arts Building’s Blankenship Recital Hall. The quartet adds Jeremy Wilson, associate professor and chair of the brass department at Vanderbilt University’s Blair School of Music, to the Nashville Symphony’s trombone section, consisting of Paul Jenkins, Derek Hawkes and Steven Brown. Established in 2018, the ensemble performs music from around the world.
The #MusicEdLove podcast series for those interested in music education will continue at 7 p.m., March 26, with an appearance by Marcia Neel, mariachi specialist. Neel has more than 36 years of experience teaching music in public schools, and she and her husband serve as music ambassadors to The Ohio State University School of Music. She was also the Disney Channel Teacher of the Year in 2013. This podcast is available free of charge on all podcast platforms and is under the direction of Dr. Angela Ammerman, coordinator of UT Martin music education.
The Wesley Reist Wind Quintet will perform at 7:30 p.m., March 27, also in the Blankenship Recital Hall. The ensemble, based at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, features flute, oboe, clarinet, French horn and bassoon. The group has performed at universities and schools of music across the country since its establishment in 2017.
