WUTM wins ninth consecutive Platinum Award, 17 other recognitions

WUTM 90.3 FM “The Hawk,” the University of Tennessee at Martin’s student-run campus radio station, has brought home its ninth consecutive Platinum Award from the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System annual conference, held March 2 in New York City, New York. This is the highest peer-reviewed award given by the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System, which has more than 1,000 member stations.

WUTM also won first place for best news promotion and best political news coverage among participating stations nationwide. The station was recognized as a national finalist in 15 categories, including those for best public affairs program, best public affairs event/promotion, best overall air schedule, best overall sports coverage, best men’s basketball play-by-play, best baseball/softball play-by-play, best sports update and best sports pre-game/post-game show.

Finalist status was also achieved for best community news coverage, best news promotion, best station facilities and best college radio station with under 10,000 students enrolled. Olivia Johnston, of Hohenwald, was a national finalist for best radio program director; Jillianne Moncrief, of McLemoresville, was a finalist for best radio news director; and Kait Scott, of Martin, was a finalist for best social media director.

“It comes as no surprise that once again Dr. Richard Robinson and the students and staff of WUTM received so many nominations and awards. Their work is consistently, year after year, some of the best our judges hear,” said Chris Thomas, president of the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System.
