UT Martin ensembles featured at Discovery Park of America

The University of Tennessee at Martin Department of Music will feature a variety of student and faculty ensembles during the Discovery Park of America’s “Rhythm on the Rails” music festival this year. The new family-friendly series will begin at 5 p.m. every Thursday evening from May 2-June 27 around the south lake near the Train Depot.

Admission is free for park members and guests who purchased admission that day. Tickets for non-members are $5 each. UT Martin ensembles including the jazz combo, Brazilian Choro Ensemble, steelworks band, and Coffey and Carithers faculty duo will perform throughout the series.

“We’re excited about the opportunity for two great local institutions, Discovery Park and UT Martin, to come together to provide an opportunity for our region to celebrate some of their favorite local performers while also having the opportunity to discover new music,” said Dr. Julie Hill, chair of the UT Martin Department of Music.

Revenue generated from this event will be used to offset the cost of refurbishing a 1916 Ford Model-T planned for public display at the park in fall 2019. Attendees are welcome to bring blankets and lawn chairs to enjoy the shows. Food trucks and catch-and-release fishing will also be available during the festival.

A complete performance schedule is available at discoveryparkofamerica.com/musicfestival. The 2019 event is sponsored by Blue Bank Resort, Williams Country Sausage and The Citizens Bank. Discovery Park of America is located at 830 Everett Blvd in Union City.
