UT Martin Somerville Center hosts open house, awards scholarship

The University of Tennessee at Martin Somerville Center hosted an open house event July 9 for area students seeking to learn more about programs available at the location. Approximately 21 potential students attended the event, which included a center tour, refreshments and a drawing for an $800 UT Martin scholarship.

Rochelli Hunter, of Oakland, won the scholarship to attend classes at the UT Martin Somerville Center this fall. Hunter will be a freshman and plans to major in psychology.

“The Fayette County community is a blessing to the center. It was wonderful to have so many local business leaders come out not only to support the center but also to encourage new and potential students who came to the open house. Our community is truly a star in West Tennessee and across our state,” said Kara Tapp, center director.

The UT Martin Somerville Center offers general education and undergraduate courses supporting bachelor’s degree requirement in more than 80 specialized programs, including agriculture, business, criminal justice, history, social work, political science, psychology and interdisciplinary studies.
