UT Martin to host Hispanic reception, live salsa band

The University of Tennessee at Martin will host the first recruitment reception for Hispanic students from 3-4:30 p.m., Oct. 5, in the Boling University Welcome Center. Spanish-language interpreters will be present for any student or family member in need of translation assistance.

Any student considering UT Martin for their higher education is welcome to attend and learn more about admissions and scholarship opportunities. Details for the Coleman Opportunity Scholarship, sponsored by the Coleman Family Foundation, will be announced at this time.

The Lalo and Friends Salsa Band will perform following the reception at 5 p.m. in the UT Martin quadrangle in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. Established in 1992, the ensemble, led by percussionist Lalo Davila, has been featured at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention and the National Association of Music Merchants. Big band and dance lessons for attendees will begin at 4:30 prior to the performance, and food trucks featuring Mexican dishes will be available.

This appearance is co-sponsored by the UT Martin Office of Student Life and Multicultural Affairs, Department of Music, the Student Government Association and the Coleman Family Foundation. There is no charge to attend.
