J. Houston Gordon Museum features 1950s movie memorabilia

The J. Houston Gordon Museum, located in the University of Tennessee at Martin Paul Meek Library, will feature “Terror in the Theater: Fifties Fears,” an exhibit dedicated to the golden age of science fiction films, until Nov. 24.

“Terror in the Theater: Fifties Fears” includes posters, props and other items from iconic 1950s science fiction movies. The Cold War, the rise of communism and an increase in flying saucer sightings sparked paranoia and contributed to a surge in science fiction films. The exhibition allows visitors to examine the world’s fears during the ‘50s, whether real or imagined.

The exhibition comes from the Forest Ackerman Collection at the University of Wyoming’s American Heritage Center.

The museum is open to the public from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with no admission fee. All visitors are required to wear cloth face coverings while on campus.

Public parking is available in the non-designated lot on the west side of Mt. Pelia Road, across from the library.
