Vanguard Theatre to present ‘Oedipus Rex’ March 11-14

The University of Tennessee at Martin Vanguard Theatre will perform Sophocles’ “Oedipus Rex” at 7 p.m., March 11-13, and at 3 p.m., March 14, in the Harriet Fulton Theatre located in the Fine Arts Building. Seating is limited to 50 people per showing, and tickets must be reserved in advance.

Masks and social distancing are required.

“Oedipus Rex” tells the story of Oedipus of Thebes, a tragic hero who seeks to find the cause of the plague affecting his city. As Oedipus learns more about the prophetic nature of his past actions and family history, he discovers he is the source of the contagion.

The Vanguard Theatre will not charge admission but is encouraging audience members to donate the usual ticket price, $15, to the UT Martin Support the ARTS fund at utm.edu/starts. Donations will be used to support arts programs at UT Martin and across West Tennessee.
