Seventh-annual Captain’s Challenge fundraiser set for April 14

The University of Tennessee at Martin is hosting its seventh-annual Captain’s Challenge fundraising event April 14, with a goal to raise $350,000 in 24 hours. This year’s theme is “Captain’s Challenge – Jeopardy! Edition,” and UT Martin community members can follow along as Captain competes in the trivia competition for a chance to help the university achieve its fundraising goal.

Contributors can direct their donations toward any campus office, department, athletic organization, regional center, scholarship fund, special program or another fundraiser at challenge.utm.edu. Each college will have a meter to track its real-time fundraising progress on the donation website.

Donors are asked to consider the Student Assistance fund, the Athletics-Victory fund, the Northwest Tennessee Arts Center fund, the Innovation and Product Realization Building fund, or the Ned Ray McWherter Institute fund if unsure of which program to donate to specifically.

Last year, with the goal of $325,000, UT Martin raised over $401,000 in 24 hours.

Jackie Johnson, assistant vice chancellor of the Office of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving, encourages all alumni to donate during Captain’s Challenge no matter the size of their gift.

“Many times, alumni think the size of their donation isn’t enough to help make a difference,” Johnson said. “But we’ve seen how small gifts can make a huge impact. We started off the first year with a $25,000 goal, and last year, we raised over $400,000. So as you can see, any donation can make an impact on a student’s life here at UT Martin.”

Those interested in helping to promote the event on social media and through other channels are encouraged to register as “Captain’s Challenge Pilots” at alumni.utm.edu/pilot.
