UT Martin to welcome students back August 19

The University of Tennessee at Martin will begin the fall 2021 semester Aug. 23, and incoming freshmen students begin moving into campus residence halls Aug. 19. Face masks/coverings will be required in classrooms, laboratories and other spaces where attendance is required.

First-Year Initiative, a special program for incoming freshmen, begins with Move-In Mania at 6 a.m., Aug. 19, when student organizations and community groups gather at the residence halls to assist students as they move into their rooms. This annual event is the first major welcome new students receive from the community as they adjust to their new homes.

Informal sessions will occur throughout the weekend, and new students will attend convocation at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 20, in the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center. Convocation is a special ceremony to begin a new student’s collegiate career and remind them that the end goal is ultimately graduation in the same arena.

New students will have the opportunity to attend a comedy show featuring Buzz Sutherland in Watkins Auditorium, a Welcome Back Block Party hosted by the Office of Housing and play games at the Student Recreation Center. For a full list of Welcome Weekend events, visit utm.edu/fyi.

Upperclassmen and transfer students began moving into campus residences over the past weekend, and classes begin at 8 a.m. Monday, Aug. 23, at the main campus and five UT Martin regional centers in Jackson, Parsons, Ripley, Selmer and Somerville.

Any accepted students who have not yet registered for fall classes should contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at 731-881-7020.
