Disaster response for archives to be discussed in UT Martin workshops

A workshop titled “Disaster Response for Archives and Cultural Institutions” will be presented at three different locations throughout June by Sam Richardson, head of special collections and archives at the University of Tennessee at Martin’s Paul Meek Library. On Wednesday, June 8, Richardson will present at the Paul Meek Library. On Friday, June 10, the presentation will take place at the UT Martin Parsons Center, and on Tuesday, June 21, he will present at the UT Martin Somerville Center. All presentations will begin at 10 a.m.

Disasters can leave possessions vulnerable to damage, which can be overwhelming for small archives and other cultural institutions. Richardson will explain best practices for taking a proactive approach to disaster preparation. Participants will learn how to create a disaster plan, set up an emergency kit, deal with damaged items, and locate helpful resources and organizations.

This workshop is open to the public and free of charge through a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. RSVP is recommended but not required.

For more information or to RSVP, contact Sam Richardson at 731-881-7094 or by email at srichar12@utm.edu.
