UT Martin Dance Ensemble to perform spring showcase

The University of Tennessee at Martin Department of Visual and Theatre Arts Dance Ensemble will showcase their spring 2023 production “Remembering” at 7 p.m., April 20-21, in the Harriet Fulton Theatre located in the Fine Arts Building on the main campus.

The 2023 spring showcase is centered around Dr. Carol Eckert’s painting “Remembering Nancy,” which is a painting about her mother. Eckert is professor and chair for the Department of Visual and Theatre Arts. Visuals of the artwork will be displayed while the dancers are performing each section. Each painting represents “maps” of Eckert’s mother.

The performances will be choregraphed by both UT Martin students and faculty. Student choreographers include Maleia Bigham, a first-year dance education major from Polk County; Madison Bixler, a first-year dance education major from Obion County; Lanna-Kate Graves, a first-year dance education major from Weakley County; Marlee Scott, a sophomore dance education major from Williamson County; Abby Walker, a first-year dance education major from Rutherford County; and Alexandra Webber, a junior veterinary science and technology major from Davidson County. Sarah McCormick, director of ensemble and professor of dance, choreographed three new sections for the spring show.

Student performers include Anna Bailey, a junior agriculture major from Culleoka; Caroline Hunter, a sophomore fine and performing arts major from Millington; Kayla Mick, a first-year fine and performing arts major from Baxter; and Gabriel Rogers, a sophomore fine and performing arts major from Jackson. Bixler, Graves, Scott, Walker and Webber will also perform in the showcase.

Tickets are $15 for general admission, $10 for students, and children 10 and under are free. Tickets will be sold at the door starting at 6 p.m. the night of the show and can be purchased with cash or check.
