Active shooter training set May 25 at UT Martin

An active-shooter training exercise is scheduled 10 a.m.-noon, Thursday, May 25, in the Johnson EPS Building on the University of Tennessee at Martin main campus. The building is located next to the Paul Meek Library on Mt. Pelia Road. The road will be closed to traffic during the training. Participants will meet following the training to assess the event.

The exercise is designed to stop the active-shooter threat and overload local emergency systems in a realistic emergency response situation. Pacer Pond, located west of Mt. Pelia Road across from the Boling University Center, will serve as a triage site.

The training event will involve the Weakley County Emergency Management Agency, the UT Martin Department of Public Safety, the Martin Police Department, the Weakley County Sheriff’s Department and West Tennessee Healthcare Volunteer Hospital.

For information, contact Ray Wiggington, Weakley County EMA, 731-364-2647, or Charlie Jahr, UT Martin Department of Public Safety, 731-881-7777.
