Career Planning and Development provides you with the knowledge and resources you need to make an informed decision when choosing a career. Information is available on the following topics for currently enrolled students and alumni: internships, job search, interview preparation, resume and cover letter writing, and on-campus interviews with employers.

Dr. Annie Jones

Dr. Annie Carol Jones is an advocate for diversity in higher education, Jones has conducted research in the field of minority student issues in higher education. She views all areas of diversity, students, staff, faculty, outreach, and campus climate as intertwined and interdependent, creating a full circle.

Jones holds a doctorate in education leadership and higher education administration from Nova Southeastern University, Fort Lauderdale, Florida and a Master of Science in education-counselor education from the University of Wisconsin, Platteville. Prior to her assignment as career counselor in 2016, Dr. Jones held the position of coordinator of Minority Affairs from 2010 – 2016.

Jones is also committed to community and volunteer service. She is a member and board member of the Martin Kiwanis club. Dr. Jones is an advocate/mentor for students on the UTM campus.

Katie Mantooth

Katie, a native of Arkansas, graduated from Queens University of Charlotte (NC) with a Bachelor of Arts in Corporate Communication with a minor in art and the University of South Carolina with a Master of Education in Student Personnel Services with a concentration in counseling. She has over 20 years of experience in career services that includes career counseling/coaching, internship and student employment program management, and career fair and social media/marketing coordination. Outside work, Katie enjoys church choir, running, cooking and spending time with her husband, Dr. Jamie Mantooth, and their three children. She is an advocate for the local schools and community, serving on both the Charger Foundation board and Martin Beautiful committee.

Melanie Young

A proud Pacer/Skyhawk, Melanie is a three-time graduate of UTM. She holds a Master of Arts in Strategic Communication (2019) and a Master of Science in Education with an emphasis in Educational Psychology (1987). An experienced career counselor and adjunct instructor, her passion is to guide students toward their professional paths and to help them develop professional narratives to effectively market themselves. She challenges them to self-reflect and push the boundaries to grow and become ambassadors of the excellent educational preparation they receive at UTM. In her free time, she enjoys genealogy research and is in the process of becoming a certified Tennessee Naturalist.
