Skyhawks Student Email Addresses Now Appearing

As previously announced, IT Services has begun an initiative to transition student email from Google to M365. Starting Fall 2025, all new student accounts have email addresses that end in @skyhawks.utm.edu (e.g., captain@skyhawks.utm.edu). During this transition, you can still use either the @skyhawks.utm.edu or @ut.utm.edu addresses to email students. Email sent to either address will be delivered to the students' mailboxes.

Since students already have M365 licenses, this change in emails poses zero cost to the student and protects student accounts with the same tools and security features currently available for faculty and staff accounts.

New Faculty: Available Teaching & Research Technologies

Welcome to UTM! Here are some Q/A that we typically receive from new faculty each semester.

I am teaching multiple sections of the same course. Is it possible to merge those sections in Canvas?

Yes, you can cross-list the sections so that your content can be created in one Canvas course shell and distributed to all of the cross-listed sections. You can also set different due dates for the sections, email the students by section, and sort the gradebook by sections. Contact the ITC for assistance with this process.

Do UTM professors have access to a Zoom account?

Yes, UTM's Zoom access is managed by UT Knoxville's Office of Information Technologies. Visit this link to request your account.

For research purposes, what survey software/apps are available?

For large-scale surveys, check out Qualtrics through UT Knoxville's Office of Information Technologies. For smaller on-campus surveys or in-class polling, you can use Microsoft Forms which is in the M365 suite of apps. This link offers a brief tutorial.

What software options are available to faculty and students other than M365?

Visit the ITS website to view the software available to UTM students and faculty.

How do I request assistance with my classroom technology on main campus and at the Centers?

Bubble Sheets & Question Banks for Academic Integrity and Efficiency
With Akindi, faculty can create in-person tests using bubble sheets that are printed in your office. After students have taken the test, you run the completed bubble sheets through your office copier/scanner to pull the grades into Canvas. Concerned about Academic Integrity? You can create multiple versions of the test in Akindi with an automatic question scrambler. Akindi has also updated the analytics to allow users to view combined data across all versions of an assessment

The Akindi Importer is an online tool that imports Microsoft Word documents and converts them into QTI files, which can then be used to create question banks and quizzes directly within Canvas. This option is helpful when a professor wants to offer students multiple attempts on a quiz but prefers that students see a different combination of questions from the same content. For more information, contact the ITC or check out the ITS Knowledge Base for detailed instructions on Akindi.
