The mission of the UT Martin Division of Student Affairs is to educate students, engage the community, and enrich the UTM experience.
Using both quantitative and qualitative methodologies, student affairs assessment projects are designed to:
The student data that we regularly collect, analyze and report, serves as resource for many UTM departments, faculty, and staff.
At UTM, we believe that student learning happens throughout and across the college experience. The following four broad, division-wide student learning domains and related student learning outcomes statements define/describe the co-curricular learning that takes place through the programs, activities, and services offered by Student Affairs. These learning outcomes also consider and reflect the missions and strategic plans of the University and Student Affairs.
Learning Outcome: Students who engage in Student Affairs programs, activities and services will develop an integrated sense of personal identity, a positive sense of self, and a personal code of ethics.
Learning Outcome: Students who engage in Student Affairs programs, activities and services will develop healthy, respectful, and collaborative relationships with others.
Learning Outcome: Students who engage in Student Affairs programs, activities and services will demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to civic engagement and apply that knowledge to create safe, healthy, equitable, and thriving communities.
Learning Outcome: Students who engage in Student Affairs programs, activities and services will acquire and use cognitive and practical skills that will enable them to live healthy, productive, and purposeful lives.

The mission of the Boling University Center is to enhance the overall learning experience by supporting the student services that call the University Center home and by provide the wide range of support to various educational and recreational programming that promote faculty-student interaction and celebrate the difference among diverse community members.
Learning outcomes for the Boling University Center include:
Outcome 1: Students will be able to work with the customer in the absence of the professional staff
Outcome 2: Students will demonstrate an understanding of event planning and execute the details associated with the event.
Our mission is to enhance learning and promote the development of healthy lifestyles through quality facilities, programs, and services for the campus community.
Learning outcomes for Campus Recreation include:
Outcome 1: Students who are employed by Campus Recreation will be able to demonstrate skills and behaviors that enable them to be effective in their student employment role and future professional positions.
Outcome 2: Students who engage in Campus Recreation programs and services will acquire skills, knowledge and behaviors that contribute to their quality of life.
The purpose of Care Team is to assess student behavioral incidents and to coordinate and implement early intervention and formalized support strategies that prevent student behavior concerns, conflicts, and high risk situations from escalating to the level of a crisis or threat.
Learning outcomes for the Care Team include:
Outcome 1: The Care Team will establish and maintain a working website to assist the campus and community in identifying and referring students who may require additional support
Outcome 2: The Care Team will establish and maintain an online reporting portal, located on the SOCT website, which allows campus and community members to submit referrals (anonymously if desired).
Outcome 3: Care Team members will receive training and become certified in higher education behavioral intervention protocols
Outcome 4: The Care Team will deliver programming for campus outreach and awareness; additionally, the team will help promote the suicide prevention program, “Question, Persuade, Refer” (QPR), and sexual assault awareness and bystander intervention movement, “Green Dot.”
Residence Life at the University of Tennessee at Martin seeks to provide the full on-campus living experience while preparing residents to become responsible members of their community. We provide students with an individualized experience and exceptional facilities. We promote individual growth, academic achievement, respect for individual differences, and responsible living.
Learning outcomes for the Office of Housing and Residence Life include:
Outcome 1: As a result of living in University Housing, students will learn to effectively manage and deal with conflict. (Interpersonal Competence, Social Responsibility)
Outcome 2: As a result of living in University Housing, students will have access to programs and resources that will enhance their academic success.
Student Conduct strives to reinforce the importance of accepting responsibility for one’s actions by consistent application of well-established processes grounded in student learning outcomes which foster personal development, social responsibility, interpersonal competence, and advance the cognitive and practical skills necessary to create a life-long commitment to ethics and integrity.
Learning outcomes for the Office of Student Conduct include:
Outcome 1: Students will exhibit commitment to ethics and integrity through socially responsible behavior in accordance with UTM’s Honor code, Standards of Academic Integrity, and Standards of Conduct.
Outcome 2: Students who participate in the Student Conduct process will be able to identify the Standards of Conduct violated, articulate personal responsibility for their actions, reassess their decision making strategy, and seek help from others when needed.
Outcome 3: Fraternity members will show an understanding of social responsibility, consideration for the welfare of their members, and impact of their actions on the UTM campus and local community.
The Office of Student Life at the University of Martin seeks to provide leadership and service opportunities while involving students on campus and in the community. The student-centered staff is committed to developing students holistically so that they are engaged and contributing members of a diverse global society.
The learning outcomes for the Office of Student Life include:
Outcome 1: Students who engage in service opportunities facilitated by and through the Office of Student Life will develop civic awareness, value civic responsibility, and practice engaged citizenship.
Outcome 2: Students who are involved in the organizations under the umbrella of the Office of Student Life through fraternities and sororities will exhibit academic achievement, success, and growth.
The mission of student leadership development is to use The Student Leadership Challenge to develop leadership qualities in UT Martin student leaders, especially leaders of UT Martin student organizations.
Learning outcomes for Student Leadership Development Using The Student Leadership Challenge include:
Outcome 1: Students enrolled in the Student Leadership Challenge Program (SLC) will earn a certificate of completion.
Outcome 2: Students employed by campus offices or programs will be trained in student leadership concepts using the Student Leadership Challenge.
Outcome 3: Students who earn an SLC Program completion certificate will be trained in ways and means to implement a co-curricular transcript in OrgSync.
