The bulk of the letters are written to or from Martha Bates Higgs (1812-1873), James A. Higgs (1845-1862), Thomas J. Higgs (1844-1922) and Thomas Clarence Higgs (1873- ). Includes a genealogy, a few Civil War letters, an "Oath of Renunciation and Allegiance" to the United States (1863) and documents relating to the Spring Hill Academy of Henry County where Thomas J. Higgs was a teacher.
