The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Tennessee at Martin is part of the College of Engineering and Natural Sciences. The Department offers four concentrations leading to the Bachelor of Arts or the Bachelor of Science degree with a major in mathematics: Mathematics, Statistics, Secondary Mathematics and a general concentration. We also offer minors in both mathematics and statistics.
Our department consists of a diverse and creative faculty dedicated to teaching, technology and research. Faculty are active in supporting a mathematics club, a mathematics colloquium, and a mathematics laboratory for students. All faculty are involved in using computerized resources. Some, at the forefront of calculator technology, nationally offer seminars in their use, while other members are involved in using the Internet for teaching and learning. Their work includes internationally know pages on primes and widely used graph theory tutorials
Many faculty members are actively involved in new research. Examples of areas of interest include n-color Frobenius partitions, the discovery and distribution of primes, real compact sets, orbifolds, visualization using spreadsheets statistical consulting, and ranking & selection procedures. Department members regularly publish in the top journals in their fields.
